2013 AAU GYMNASTICS SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS

Since 2011, AAU Gymnastics has awarded gymnasts that have excelled in academics and athletics with scholarships to the college of their choice. This year, the AAU would like to award these scholarships to three talented and dedicated student-athletes. First, congratulations to Emily Wyant, the recipient of the $1,000 scholarship! She is from the Lake Erie district and has been competing in AAU for nine years in many competitions. In high school she wanted to better her education as much as possible so she took advanced classes and even a college class! Emily graduated with a 3.9 GPA and was a member of the school’s golf team. She plans on attending Youngstown State University to major in nursing.

Next, congratulations goes out to Molly Catherine Arentz, who will be receiving a $500 scholarship! She is from the Wisconsin district and has been competing in AAU gymnastics for the last 8 years! Molly has won many state and national titles and even a Junior Olympic title. She even started her own gymnastics gym that is run through AAU with her three older sisters! Emily’s future plans are to attend Milwaukee Area Technical College to attain an Anesthesia Technology A.A.S Degree. She also plans to continue coaching and hopes to possibly become a judge in gymnastics! 

 

Last but certainly not least, congratulations to Aria Sabbagh, winner of a $500 scholarship for outstanding athletic and academic commitment. Aria currently lives in Kansas City, Missouri where he is a competitive gymnast at Emerald City Gymnastics. He has been a gymnast for ten years and has competed as an AAU athlete for the past five. Some of Aria’s gymnastics accomplishments include placing first in the all-around at the AAU Junior Olympic Games, placing second in the all-around at the USAG Junior Olympic Nationals and receiving the Academic All American Award for the past four years. He enjoys spending time with his family and friends and playing classical Persian music on the violin. Aria graduated high school from The Pembroke Hill School and will be attending The College of William and Mary in the fall. Here, he will major in neuroscience while following the pre-med track in order to accomplish his goal of becoming a neurosurgeon.
