AAU hit the three-quarter mark for the 53rd AAU Junior Olympic Games. The second and third largest participation events came to a close after several days of intense competition. Baton Twirling, Field Hockey, Track and Field, Taekwondo, Basketball and Cornhole are still in the lineup for the final days of the Games.2019 AAU Junior Olympic Games

GREENSBORO, N. C. – The Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) hit the three-quarter mark for the 53rd AAU Junior Olympic Games on July 31. The second and third largest participation events came to a close after several days of intense competition. Baton Twirling, Field Hockey, Track and Field, Taekwondo, Basketball and Cornhole are still in the lineup for the final days of the Games.
The event with the second highest participation, Swimming, had another terrific year at the Greensboro Aquatic Center. The RAD relay team from Florida took home the gold in the Girls 15-18 400m Medley Relay with a time of 4:48.35. The team was composed of Saige Fentsor, Savannah Trezza, Grace Molinaro and Madeline Rideout. On the boys side, ROCO, another Florida based team, snatched the gold for the 15-18 400m Medley Relay. Their team included Slater Sabel, Ben Castillo, Kyle Loi and Garett Cone.

Track and Field kicked off the first two days of competition with the multi-events and 3000m racewalk. Athletes participated in several different styles of multi-events: triathlon, pentathlon, heptathlon and decathlon. There were three repeat champions in the racewalk, two of those being three-time champions, Reese Gentry and Marquis Phifer. Bryanna Craig became the back-to-back Heptathlon champion, and D’Asia Duncan took gold in the Pentathlon after winning the same event at AAU Club Championships two week before.

Trampoline and Tumbling hosted five different events throughout their five days of competition- power tumbling, trampoline, synchronized trampoline, single mini-trampoline and double mini-trampoline.

Rhythmic Gymnastics held its inaugural event at the 2019 AAU Junior Olympic Games. Its youngest competitor was Holly Ryan, who was five years old, competed in the hoop event.

In wrestling, the girls’ competition wrapped their two-day event. For the first time, AAU wrestlers competed in freestyle and folkstyle. Participants represented seven different states- Michigan, Ohio, Nebraska, Florida, Virginia, North Carolina and Iowa. The boys competition will continue for the next two days in the Greensboro Coliseum.
