RECAP: 2017 AAU AGE GROUP NATIONALS

KINGSPORT, Tenn (June 25) - Over 1,300 athletescompeted in Kingsport, Tennessee for the 2017 AAU Gymnastics Age Group National Championship.
Athletes from twenty-five local AAU districts descended on the city of Kingsport, from June 21-25 to compete for the chance at an AAU title.

Athletes from twenty-five local AAU districts descended on the city of Kingsport, from June 21-25 to compete for the chance at an AAU title.
On Friday, June 23rd, the Celebration of Athletes at the Dobyns-Bennett High School was held featuring a musical performance from Tennessee native, award winning bluegrass fiddler Carson Peters, plus the Dobyns Bennett High School Drumline, Dru Heffington and Skylar Kitchen.
During the ceremonies, seven (7) deserving AAU Gymnastics seniors were presented with scholarships for their upcoming freshmen year of college. Also, Chattooga and Spirit Gymnastics Special Olympic athletesperformed a beautiful routine to Power of the Dream sung by Dru Heffington.
AAU Gymnastics also AAU CARES - over $4,000 was raised on-site through the Kids Helping Kids campaign. Monies will be donated to the FRIENDS (Friends, Reaching, Inspiring, Educating, Neighbors about Down Syndrome) organization supporting the Greater Tri-cities area throughout the event. Over 100 Down Syndrome families in the tri-cities area will benefit from these gracious donations. AAU Gymnastics will be making a donation as well.
